Programme Note:
The Cave is a journey through the violence, discomfort and tension we experience when we question core beliefs – both inside and outside of ourselves. Starting with the disassembly of echo chambers, the piece stretches and pulls obscuring shadows used to reinforce patterned thinking, exposing the layers hidden beneath them as flickers of light, opening up new portals. The Cave, through three movements, uses extreme dynamic shifts and unsettling sounds to represent this process of excavation and the self-doubt that accompanies it, while celebrating the conflict that it creates.
* world premiere
This piece was presented as part of the PIVOT program in partnership with the Canadian League of Composers and the Canadian Music Centre.
